- Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH), Halle

Dates:November 27-28, 2008
Description:Second Halle Forum on Urban Economic Growth
Location:Halle an der Saale, IWH, Germany
Subject:For the 2nd Halle Forum in 2008 the organisers are planning to bring together scholars dealing with development problems of cities in de-industrialised regions with a special reference to post-transition economies. Colleagues from CEE countries are particularly welcome. The special topic of the 2nd Halle Forum will refer to the observation that many larger and middle-sized cities dispose of a considerable potential of institutions creating and disseminating knowledge. This kind of endowment seems to be especially valuable in an upcoming knowledge-based economy. Recent strategic concepts and competitions referring to Ś‘knowledge-based urban developmentŚ’, Ś‘knowledge cityŚ’, Ś‘creative cityŚ’, or Ś‘science cityŚ’ indicate that urban planners and politicians are beginning to search for strategies to take advantage and to make use of this potential. In spite of this favourite initial situation many cities up to now were not able to Ś‘transformŚ’ their knowledge resources into substantial economic success.
