| Subject: | This course will study the determinants of labor market outcomes, including employment, hours, unemployment, wages, and worker and job flows. It will focus on three topics: the causes of the divergent behavior of U.S. and Continental European labor markets in recent decades; the ability of job search models to account for the cyclical behavior of labor market outcomes; and altenative models of unemployment that examine the role of firm- or industry-specific human capital, rather than search frictions. The course will use dynamic general equilibrium models to develop and quantify the theoretical arguments throughout the course and will focus on the mapping between these models and empirical evidence.
