|Dates:||June 14-15, 2012|
|Description:||Models of Expectation Formation and the Role of the News Media for Information Transmission|
|Location:||Hamburg, Universität Hamburg, Germany|
|Subject:||How do households and professional forecasters build expectations about future economic variables, especially inflation? What are adequate ways of modeling expectation formation and how can survey data be used to assess those models? What role do the news media play in processing information to economic agents? Researchers interested in these questions are invited to present and discuss their own research in the workshop "Models of Expectation Formation and the Role of the News Media for Information Transmission" which takes place at the Universität Hamburg. Both theoretical and empirical work is welcome. In a first block, the information content of the news media and their usefulness for explaining (survey) data on expectations are analyzed. Models of expectations formation take center stage in a second block, investigating the role of information stickiness and near-rational behavior.
