| Dates: | June 30-July 02, 2005 |
| Description: | 21st EGOS Colloquium - Unlocking Organizations |
| Location: | Berlin, Germany |
| Subject: | Organizations often get locked in specific ways of seeing and doing things. Sometimes, they even get trapped. Such lock-ins occur at different levels ranging form the individual, group, departmental, alliance, regional, industrial and societal level. They can also be found in different types of organizations such as firms, public administrations, universities, unions and NGOs. Although cognitive, normative and resource-based lock-ins are common phenomena in and between organizations, no consensus has yet been reached on how to explain their occurrence. The manifold dynamics underlying these processes are characterized by autopoeitic reproduction, standardization, bureaucratic vicious circles, self-fulfilling prophecies, power, and politics.
